Universities have traditionally had two missions; Teaching and Research. However, in recent years, a great many universities, including the University of Turin, have complemented these traditional missions with an another, known as the Third Mission, which has become a major policy concern.
This Third Mission, in simple terms, is one of engagement between the University and society and has assumed an increasingly crucial and strategic role. In undertaking this mission, the University seeks to share knowledge outside the university environment and foster its growth to the benefit of social, cultural and economic development.
Individual departments carry out Third Mission activities and projects in order to strengthen dialogue and interaction between the University, industries and society.
